NABARD History
Organisation National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was established on 12 July 1982 by an Act of the Parliament to promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural prosperity through effective credit support, related services, institutional & infrastructure development and other innovative initiatives. Functions and Duties
The Bank is performing various functions which are driving factors in rural development and agricultural growth. It supports farm and agricultural allied businesses through financing short, medium and long term loans to eligible people. It majorly refinances to the RRBs, Cooperative Banks, Micro finance Institutions, Marketing federations, Cooperatives and state owned institutions which are prime source of credit to agriculture rural development. Having its head office in Mumbai, NABARD is situated in as many as 31 Indian States and Territories. Presently it has 12 Monitoring offices in various states and total 534 District Development Offices are working under NABARD across the country. NABARD has its own Human resource management policy where it trains officers and Clerks in its four establishments called Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) at Lucknow, Mangalore and Bolpur. It imparts the banking and finance skills in its employees as well as clients so far. Staff strength As on 31 March 2015, NABARD had 4062 employees including 2623 (65%) officers (Group ‘A’), 658 (16%) in the clerical cadre (Group ‘B’); and 781 (19%) messengers and maintenance staff (Group ‘C’). Of the total staff, 755 belonged to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category (18.6 %) and 349 to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category (8.6%), while 55 were ex-servicemen (1.4%) and 90 were physically challenged (2.2%).
