State Bank of India and its Associate Banks Assistants (Clerical Cadre) Exam Details

This is the entry level job for young graduates. To join as Assistants (clerical cadre) in bank one should clear the selection process. This The Bank is offering fast track growth opportunities as the Assistants are eligible for promotion (as officers) on completion of 3 years service.
Eligibility Criteria
A. Essential Academic Qualifications: (As on the date mentioned in notification): 
(a) A Degree (Graduation level) from a recognised university, or any equivalent qualification recognised as such by the Central/State Government. 
(c) Should be able to write and speak English. 
(d) Knowledge of local language will be an added qualification. 

B. Age: (As on the date mentioned in notification) 
Minimum Age: 20 years; 
Maximum Age: 28 years (As on the date mentioned in notification) 

Selection Procedure: Final selection will be made on the basis of performance in the online test and interview taken together.

Note: 
The questions in objective tests, except for the test of General English, will be bilingual i.e., English & Hindi. 
Candidates will be given a composite time of 2 Hours 15minutes. 

There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests. 1/4th mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. 

Candidates will have to pass in each of the objective tests. The passing marks in each of the tests will be decided by the Bank on the basis of the performance of all the competing candidates taken together in each test to a minimum required level. 

Candidates are also required to score a minimum percentage marks on aggregate (For SC/ST/OBC/PWD/XS candidates, 5% relaxation available thereon) for being considered for an interview. Minimum percentage marks on aggregate will be decided by the bank. 

Interviews: 
Depending upon the number of vacancies only certain number of candidates from amongst those who qualify by ranking high enough in the merit will be called for an interview in the ratio of maximum 3 candidates for each vacancy. 10% weightage would be given out of total marks (35) for interview for possessing working knowledge of local language. Final selection will be made on the basis of candidate's performance in the test and interview taken together. 

Emoluments: 
The total starting emoluments of a Clerical Cadre employee payable at Metro like Mumbai will be around Rs.17500.00 per month inclusive of D.A. and other allowances at the current rate. Allowances may vary depending upon the place of posting. 

Pay Scale: 
7200-400/3-8400-500/3-9900-600/4-12300-700/7-17200-1300/1-18500-800/1-19300 (under review) 

Probation Period: 
Selected candidates will be governed by the terms and conditions of the Service Regulations of the Bank in force at the time of joining. The newly appointed assistants will be on probation for a Minimum period of 6 months. Before the probation period comes to an end, the performance of the newly recruited employees will be evaluated and the probation period of those employees whose performance fails to meet Bank's expectation may be extended. 

Roles and Responsibilities of a Bank Clerk
  • Clerical job is a sitting job in nature with the flexible timings of 10 to 5.
  • They serve as a front office executives in the bank.
  • Clerks handle the customers and their financial transactions through answering and responding to the customer inquiries.
  • He/She process and accept deposits and loan payments from bank customers and make payments to the bank customers after checking and validating customer’s identity.
  • They check the availability of funds before making payments to customers.
  • He / She has to prepare and record all deposits and payments into the bank’s computer systems.
  • Educate the customers on products and services offered by the bank.
  • Assist the administrative department and middle and senior management in their tasks.
  • Perform physical verification of cash at the end of the day and reconcile with banking records.
